a simple white wallet for a ninja

yeah, didn't you know?  ninjas need wallets.  white wallets.

klaus asked me to make this for one of his friends at preschool.  it was a fun, quick little project.  i didn't realize how much i would enjoy making exactly what someone else told me to do, rather than coming up with the concept on my own.

it's just white cotton twill, two rectangle sewn together.  i folded one edge up to make the pockets, then top-stitched all around the edges and at thirds along the length to divide the pockets and make it not floppy.  oh, i tucked the elastic loop into the seam at the beginning of the process, and sewed that button on at the very end.  klaus added these lego ninja cards.

i like it!  hey, i think i might need a new wallet . . .

homemade undies, round two

 

i made a whole batch of undies for sonnen a while back (i think it was in the potty-training days of spring).  he refused to wear them, until now.  isn't he an excellent model?

the quilt aquatic

i'm making these two quilts for k & s.  i pieced the tops a long time ago, by ripping the fabric into 4" wide strips, sewing the strips end-to-end to make one super long strip, then cutting them all to the same length and sewing them together into this brick wall of pretty colors.  i still need to add a border around them to make them standard "twin" size quilts, and then do the quilting and binding. 

i used lots of heather ross mendocino fabrics (as well as some amy butler and other random stuff), which i fell in love with by way of soulemama and heather's fantastic book weekend sewing.

i'm hoping these quilts will entice the boys to sleep in their own beds.  hmm.

a better birthday

after the last kid party we went to, i learned my lesson about home-made gifts.  they should probably be made by me and not klaus.

i made this little "treasure-collecting" bag from pale yellow hemp (repurposed from a dress i bought at the 50 cent sale) and a vintage circus-animal print fabric i've had in my stash for a good 5 years or more.  i hope finn will find something good to tuck inside.

wip

the schweiberger pillow shams are happening all over my kitchen table.  also, klaus is tying strips of fabric around his wrists and pretending to be a mummy.

blarf

blanket scarf, that is.  i made this plush scarf for brian for xmas.  sonnen fell asleep on the couch and it was the perfect little item to tuck around him.

the blarf is made from a couple of "50 cent sale" t-shirts, a fabric remnant, and a bit of a huge piece of gray jersey i bought for 50 cents/yd due to some kind of supposed damage or defect.  inside, it has a piece of thrifted (new in package!) crib-sized quilt batting. 

sometimes sonnen gets grumpy with me and says, "but you haven't made mine garf, yet - i need mine garf!"  sorry, sonni-boy.  you look so cute in this one.

just frilly enough

i've been wanting to make a pillow like owl's for a long time, with several rows of ruffled lace all around the edges.

it's one of our favorite books and i think it's time to make the move from no-frills to . . . well, to frills.

reconstruction

these undies used to be shirts.  new addiction - it only takes like 30 minutes start-to-finish.  inspiration (and instructions) right over here.

pom wonderful

new entryway curtains.  i cut them up 1/3 of the way across instead of at the middle - like a hairdo with a side part.

that's what sonnen is calling this little guy that brian whipped up for him yesterday.  sonnen was sad, apparently, but watching/helping brian with this all afternoon made him feel much better!
