this is klaus's new plant, sherlock holmes.
it's a yarrow, also called nosebleed, because it can both induce and stop them. why would anyone want to induce a nosebleed? to relieve a headache. so now klaus wants to learn all about medicinal plants. i love how one random little thing can turn into so much for a little boy.
yeah, didn't you know? ninjas need wallets. white wallets.
klaus asked me to make this for one of his friends at preschool. it was a fun, quick little project. i didn't realize how much i would enjoy making exactly what someone else told me to do, rather than coming up with the concept on my own.
it's just white cotton twill, two rectangle sewn together. i folded one edge up to make the pockets, then top-stitched all around the edges and at thirds along the length to divide the pockets and make it not floppy. oh, i tucked the elastic loop into the seam at the beginning of the process, and sewed that button on at the very end. klaus added these lego ninja cards.
i like it! hey, i think i might need a new wallet . . .

klaus has also made many montserologies, a lephrechaunology, egyptology, oceanology, and has summer plans for treeology and robberology.

picture frame, target by way of thrift store. the white mat has a round opening for a cd and a square opening for the album art, so i covered that with black (scrapbook) paper, which the photos are taped onto.
i have a ton more photos of my family, past and present, that i want to frame and hang on mother's day.
i've been looking for a pencil cup for a good month. i feel like this one is doing the trick.
i got 13 of these pretty blue glasses at the salvation army. they were marked $1.50 each, which would have come to $19.50 . . . asked if they'd sell me the set for $10 and they said yes! it never hurts to ask.
my mom gave me a really sweet set of glasses last christmas, but we immediately broke a couple of them (preschoolers + wood floors) so those are grown-up only. these blue beauties are thick pressed glass, so basically they should be as durable as our mason jars, which we've never broken. hooray for a pretty table!

yes, beach knitting! we went to aruba in december and i brought a small stash of yarn, needles and pattern books, without much of a plan. sonnen chose this pattern and the yarn (not that he had a lot of options on the yarn, but still). it's a cute beret from simple knits for little cherubs but he insists on pulling it way down, so it may as well be a stocking cap. i modified the pattern to knit in the round - it goes so much faster that way!
now, if only he would wear it. i bribed him into putting in on for a brief and grumpy photo shoot saturday. his reward: mama played legos with him. i totally would have anyway, but since he had a request, i figured i could negotiate and get what i wanted out of the deal too.
